New allotment site, new website

Following a server outage over the winter, we've lived with a fairly static website for a while. Now we have a new server (sitting safely in Germany), and a new website partly completed. We can make the website open to all the members, so everyone can comment and blog here, and ask each other questions, or write tips. What we can't do all of is make the site wonderful: from writing for it, to helping design a fresh, clean appearance, all voluntary help is welcome.

piggery access

Access to the piggery should be ok now - thanks to Keith.

piggery lock

We seem to be having some difficulties with the combination lock on the piggery. Phill and Jacqui have both reported that they can't get in. I'll try to sort something out today. Give me a call if you can update this (760295).

Union Street

We will probably be ok getting set up at 12 - it will take a while to sort out layout etc. From about 2pm we may need help with moving topsoil. We will have barrows - bring a spade if you are coming along. Thanks.

committee meeting Sunday

Just a reminder - the next committee meeting is on Sunday, 13th May, at 6pm in the piggery. Let's hope it's warmer than last time. It should be fairly quick - just a few things to report. And I've had a bash at another version of the rules for us to agree before everyone gets a copy. If you want anything put on the agenda let me know, or come along.

Union Street Community Centre

We will be starting a bit earlier at Union Street - from 12 onwards. If you can spare us an hour to move soil and timber, we'd be glad of the help. We'll be planting on Tuesday afternoon with residents' help, so if you have any spare plants leave them in the piggery with a label, and we'll collect.

Union Street Community Centre

On Saturday, 12th May, at 2pm, we'll be making some raised beds for the community around Union Street. The idea is to encourage the elderly to have a go at growing stuff to eat. Linda, Jenny and I have been planning this since we held our AGM there in January. We were given the venue free - so were keen to give something back. Dane Housing has been supportive and given us £500 to support this. Our plan is to set up a couple of raised beds for easy salad crops, and some bean and pea wigwams.

Thank you

Laying the pipe in the trench

Hello  - This is my first attempt at the new site! Many thanks to Richard for setting this up. Please contribute and let's get an on-line community going too.

Many thanks to everyone who helped with plumbing on Saturday morning - generous work with spades made the job quick. Special mention for stampers and Barrie - who organised the whole thing. Jacqui's photos were great - perhaps you can upload them?

Jenny has contacted the few people who haven't made a start on their plots - so all plots should be in use by the end of the week.

See you in the piggery - Susan

Water, water, everywhere

While it may seem that the rain will never stop, and we'll all drown before the drought is declared over, we are assured that there will be times we need to wield a watering can at the plots. With this in mind several volunteers gathered at the Yeowood site this weekend and laboured mightily to provision the site with taps. Many thanks are due to all involved,

Update - and meeting

Thanks to everyone who helped yesterday - we got the paths strimmed and collected the grass for the compost bins. Terry (the contractor), Stuart, Dave and Keith did sterling work with the strimmers despite the wet conditions, and it looks so much better.

We're having a Committee Meeting in the Piggery at 6pm on Sunday evening. If you have any questions, suggestions or comments, please e-mail me with them and we can add them to the Agenda. Indeed, if you would like to come along to the meeting you would be very welcome, but you might have to bring your own chairs!
